Are Plants and People Really that Similar? continued…
Well, yes they are!
Protection from disease
With plants as with people, prevention is better than dealing with the symptoms of disease. If plants have the water, nutrients, light and space they need, they can be more resilient and defend themselves against attack.
It is the same with people, (there are always exceptions!)
Being properly hydrated, eating a nutritious diet, getting enough fresh air all help to keep disease at bay. There are other more numinous causes, which I mention later.
Attention and Friendship
Why would you need to pay attention to your plants? If you do, you can notice if they need watering, if they have become overcrowded, damaged, infested with greenfly and ants… Then you can give them the help they need. They will be relieved. They like to be noticed and spoken kindly to. Really? Yes. Check out Masaru Emoto’s books “Messages of Water”. Amazing.
We like to be noticed too. It is awful to feel invisible in a crowd, in your street, at work. It somehow questions our self-worth. With kind attention children and adults seem to bloom.
Space
Not astrophysical space but room to grow, room to breath. How different a tree growing in the middle of a field looks to one squashed into an overcrowded plantation? The one in the field would have a complete crown, be its full and beautiful shape. If overcrowded, be they trees or garden flowers they grow tall, weak and thin, relying on neighbours to hold them up.
It is the same for people. We need space to breath, to move and be ourselves. If we live in very overcrowded spaces we can withdraw into ourselves or we can get frustrated and even violent. This is why green spaces and parks of any size in towns and cities are so important.
The 5thDimension
If we have few or none of the above but have this inner dimension in ourselves we can still survive and eventually thrive. All survivors of dreadful experiences have this quality.
How mindfully do you take care of your emotions and thoughts? How kindly do you speak to yourself? Being constantly criticized can be stressful, robbing you of energy and confidence. What if the one doing the criticizing is you?
We are 70% water. If water holds the vibrations it is subjected to (See Emoto’s work), reflect on what constantly scolding ourselves does to our body.
Spending relaxed time with your family, and friends does a great deal for your health. Holding onto resentment or anger from something that happened years ago may be a causative factor in some chronic illnesses.
It is important to take regular time off, take the family or yourself to the beach or to the mountains. Do something you love, something that lifts your heart, brings a smile to your face and heart.
I have so much more to say about all this. I hope this précis makes some sense to you. If you would like to know more or question what is here, please contact me wendyguilfoyle@hotmail.com
